Birmingham Water Works proudly participated in Fix a Leak Week, an annual campaign led by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) each March to raise awareness about the impact of household water leaks. Small leaks, like a dripping faucet or a running toilet, can waste thousands of gallons of water each year, driving up utility bills and putting a strain on local water resources.

By educating customers and providing tools to help detect and fix leaks, we’re committed to promoting water conservation across our community.

As part of this year’s efforts, our teams set up at the Birmingham Water Works payment center to distribute free toilet flappers and informational materials to customers. These simple devices can make a big difference in stopping silent toilet leaks, which are among the most common sources of household water waste. Customers also received guidance on how to check for leaks throughout their homes, empowering them to take action and save water.

Additionally, we hit the road with Birmingham Water Works employees Ronnie Lumpkin and George Myricks as they visited customers’ homes to assist with leak detection. They provided hands-on support, checking for leaks and offering toilet flappers to those who needed them. Their efforts ensured that more households could take immediate steps toward reducing water waste. Fix a Leak Week is just one way Birmingham Water Works continues to advocate for smart water use and help our customers take control of their water efficiency.
