A new Assistant General Manager at BWW

Where are you from?

I’m originally from a small town in Tennessee, called Huntsville. My father was a coal miner, and due to changing conditions and closures, we ended up moving all over east Tennessee. We eventually ended up in Bristol, Virginia. Bristol is basically half Virginia, half Tennessee. I have two sisters, one older and one younger. We’re lucky to have a large extended family, and we’re all very close.

What are some things that attracted you to continuing your career at Birmingham Water Works?

I researched the company, and the first thing I saw was the quality of top-notch professionals on staff. The incredibly impressive technical qualifications we have here are second to none. I saw the multiple awards won by team members all over the utility, and it convinced me that this organization was far more than technically sound. I could see why BWW is an industry leader. I also fell in love with this city! On my second interview, I knew I wanted to be here. I asked my wife to come take a look around B’ham. I was immediately impressed with General Manager Michael Johnson’s visions, values, and expertise.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

My #1 priority is my family. I’ve been married to my wife Sabrenia for over 20 years, and we have 3 kids: Isabella, Sawyer, and Savannah. We’re lucky to be such a close-knit family. We’re also active in our church and gym. I am a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and instructor, so I try to stay healthy and competitive. I also coach youth jiu-jitsu and wrestling! It keeps me on my toes, and I’ve always loved the energy you see when working with young people. It really puts things in perspective, and keeps me focused on the bigger picture of why we get up every day, put in the hard work, and strive to provide a better future for our children.
