Iris Fisher brings 22 years of accounting, finance, and administrative experience to the Birmingham Water Works Board. Her background includes financial statement preparation, financial analysis, budgeting, payroll, human resources, customer service, collections, purchasing, tax preparation, auditing, investing, internal controls, strategic planning, talent acquisition, managing cash flow, asset management, inventory control, and various financial software systems. After earning her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Alabama State University in 1997, Fisher continued her studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning her master’s degree in 1999. She started her career as a Staff Accountant for HealthSouth Corporation before becoming Staff Auditor for Ernst & Young LLP.
In addition to her previous tenure as Accounting Manager at BWWB, she has served in a variety of other financial roles including Financial Officer for the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation, Chief Financial Officer for Diversified Supply, Inc., and Chief Financial Officer for Amsource/XcelHR.
Iris’s most recent position was for Mercy Care Services as Director of Financial Services. In addition, she is a board member of the UAB Accounting Advisory Board as well as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a former board member for NRS Community Support Corporation, former treasurer for Woodlawn Business Advisory Board, and a former committee member of the Governmental Accounting & Auditing Forum.
