Americans lose nearly a trillion gallons of water annually through drips and leaks in and around their homes. These leaks not only cost ratepayers money but also presents a strain on the environment and as a valuable resource is wasted. That’s why the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets aside Fix a Leak Week each year to remind Americans of leaks and how to fix them. Fix a Leak Week this year takes place March 14-20, 2022. Birmingham Water Works is a longtime participant in Fix a Leak Week to educate and encourage customers to save money and preserve the environment by fixing water-wasting leaks. “Because we’re in this together, we want to help our customers understand how to identify and address leaks in their home to avoid unnecessary usage, which results in increases to their water bills,” said Rick Jackson, PR Manager and Spokesman for BWW. Customers who visit our Payment Center during the week of March 14-18 will receive a free toilet flapper replacement kit and quick tips card while supplies last. Throughout Fix a Leak Week, BWW will also share quick tips for finding and fixing leaks on Facebook and Twitter. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Birmingham Water Works will not dispatch technicians for free leak inspections.
