Just in time for summer, Birmingham Water Works (BWW) will kick off its annual Hydrate the City initiative next week to remind communities in its service area to stay hydrated by drinking water.
This year’s edition launches on May 22 at Regions Field in conjunction with the Birmingham Barons game against the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
Throughout May and June, Birmingham Water Works staff members will set up hydration pop-ups at area parks and venues, where they will give out fruit-infused water samples and recipes as well as fun promotional items. Willie Waterdrop will also make appearances at select locations.
“As temperatures rise, the importance of staying hydrated to avoid heat-related illnesses also increases,” said Rick Jackson, BWW PR Manager and Spokesperson. “The Hydrate the City campaign is a fun way to get everyone to drink water, which is always the best way to maintain hydration.”
Following the Barons game, Hydrate the City pop-ups will take place from 10 am to 12 pm each Friday starting May 27 at the Alabama Farmers Market and concluding June 24 at Railroad Park. All events are free except for the May 22 event, which will require the purchase of a ticket to the Barons vs. Trash Pandas game.
