Birmingham Water Works Debuts New Website

The Birmingham Water Works has launched its redesigned website, giving customers the ability to interact with the utility no matter where they are.

With a fresh, modern look, the redesigned website is built on a new mobile-first platform that enables customers to easily access the site from their desktops or their smartphones. The site also has a streamlined structure, with intuitive screens and menus for straightforward navigation.

“The website has been reorganized from a customer perspective, making it easier to find information and complete actions like paying your bill or reporting outages,” said Victoria Damsgard, IT Business Analyst/Project Manager.

In addition to the new design, the website has several new features. First and foremost, an interactive outage map shows customers where planned maintenance or service outages are occurring. The addition of a newsroom enables BWW to share news, videos, and other timely information. New search capabilities help customers find specific information they are seeking.

The site carries over existing features, such as online bill pay, outage reporting, start, stop, and transfer of service requests, and vendor bidding opportunities.

The ubiquity of the internet, and the growing dependence on mobile internet, has made functioning websites a necessity in doing business. According to the Pew Research Center, 90% of adults in the US use the internet. Moreover, 17% of US adults, particularly lower-income families, rely on smartphones rather than home broadband for internet access.
